First Philly inspection done. Do you think a bird hit this window hard enough to break it? 5th floor.
Hint, it's a dual pane window, this is the inside pane, the outside is fine. π€¦ββοΈ
@PurpleDragon that'd be fun insurance report to write up. But then I'd need to find out the hardness factor of a dink beak π and average flight speed.
It's subtle, but there's a slight butterfly pattern. Impacts are typically radial in all directions. When it breaks from an inclusion in the glass material, it shows the butterfly pattern more often.
Had to lay on the floor and take the picture up at the sky to get this. Any other angle and it gets really hard to see because of background items.
@Kurtroedeger Would be fun to watch the face of whoever read that report...
Can see the butterfly pattern. It's actually very cool, would make a neat background.
@PurpleDragon A fun practical joke would be to put it as someone's phone wallpaper while they're not looking! @Kurtroedeger
@stueytheround @Kurtroedeger
It would! ππ€

@Kurtroedeger So this was a fault in the glass *and* an impact? @PurpleDragon
@stueytheround @PurpleDragon no, bad glass
@Kurtroedeger Crumbs! @PurpleDragon
Tempered glass is pre-stressed and inclusions alter the stress or leave weak spots. In the center of the butterfly at the point of origin is a chip missing. This is between the window panes, so not impacted by anything. That chip popped out because of the inclusion and poof, rest of the window went because of how tempered glass is made.
Sorry nerd out a bit. π
@Kurtroedeger Maybe someone's pet pterodactyl got out? π€·ββοΈ
