Confessions of a theorist: I’m a theorist.

I just finished watching 3 Body Problem on Netflix. I have the book but haven't gotten around to reading it yet, so I can't compare the adaptation with the book. I assume they've taken the usual liberties, and then some.

I wasn't impressed with the Netflix adaptation. It didn't feel much like sci-fi, even. It was a drama with some sf elements.

The dialogue and characterisation of the main characters was largely cringey. About the only interesting character was Benedict Wong's.Clarence Shi.

Very much looking foward to a ten day vacation at the ”summer” house, starting tomorrow.

The solitude, quietness. Sauna every day. Good food & the odd adult beverage at one’s pleasure. Felling a couple of trees for firewood and other outdoors chores.

And putting aside all work related thoughts.

Bluesky seems largely to be a feed of manga and anime images, usually scantily clad, and furry variations thereof.

I don’t get it.

Created an account over at the bluesky thingy just to see what's what. Turns out, it's a place where people post pictures of scantily clad anime characters. Their Discover feed is full of that crap.

Thank dog there's

For the past few weeks I’ve been playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

It’s possibly the most immersive, the most expansive (the open world there is to explore is vast), the most beautiful and the most engaging I’ve ever played.

I really don’t have enough superlatives to praise it. The experience has been profoundly impactful.

When I play it, I almost feel like I’m there, in ancient Greece. And it’s beautiful.

A wonderful, unforgettable experience.

Just bought Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Ultimate Edition today from Epic Store with a huge discount. Paid about 15€ for it.

And the game is wonderful! So pretty and so immersive. And so much to explore! I love open world games.

Highly recommended!

Met a crazy Karen today while walking our dogs. Told her politely that she should keep her dogs on a leash, and immediately she launched into batshit Karen mode, nearly assaulting me.

What the fuck is wrong with people? They do something that is against the law, they get reminded of it, and they act like they are the victim.

No wonder I’m something of a misanthrope.

I've been down with the dreaded lurgy since Friday. I've dodged that bullet for several years now. Well, apparently my luck ran out.

The last three nights have been pretty miserable, but today's been better! Not quite out of the woods yet, but I may have a chance for a decent night's sleep tonight. 🤧

Anyways, gives me an excuse for a wee dram before bedtime. 🥃 You know, for medicinal purposes.

Men in Black (1997) was a really good, fun movie. Very rewatchable, too. Men in Black II (2002) was a big disappointment. It didn't capture the spirit of the original.

Men in Black 3 (2012), however, was brilliant! Immensely entertaining, very funny, and -- suprisingly poignant. I wish they'd made another sequel with Josh Brolin as agent K and Will Smith as agent J. They had a great dynamic.

Of the three MiB movies, I actually think I like MiB3 the most.

Really happy that have included some good ol’ 80s tv shows like Magnum P.I., The 😎 Six Million Dollar Man, etc in their catalogue.

Takes me back to my teens!

Today we prepared our summer house in the for winter "hibernation".

It's getting cold, shallow bays have already seen a thin layer of ice. It's time to call it the end for this season.

Our summer house is on an island and only access there is by boat. The next time we'll go there will be late April/early May 2024,

So yeah -- it's been a long day. Sauna is warming up, and I'm rewarding myself with the summer house season's last Aperol Spritz!

Cheers, 🥂 😎

Time for Friday evening (in Finnish time)

I've always been an fan. Their songs are nothing short of perfection. Beautiful and catching compositions, melodies, arrangements and vocals. Entirely unique and ahead of their time.

As well known as ABBA are, there are some songs that may not be that well known.

Like "The Visitors", from their titular 8th album in 1981.

A brilliant song!

And the lyrics are relevant, yet again.

I just watched Wargames again. What a great movie! Of course, it has more meaning to those of us who were computer nerds at the time, logged on to BBS systems and used wardialers for shenanigans. What a great time it was!

I wonder if youngsters of today can relate to and appreciate that movie, or if it’s completely archaic to them.

Spent 45 minutes in the forest earlier today and picked a bucket full of chanterelles! Looks like it's going to be a good mushroom season.

So, I made chanterelle risotto, with a deer (calf) eye of round, and a red wine reduction.

It was pretty damn good! 🍷 🍽️
