Reminder the points with rays are stars. The rest are galaxies, some gravitationally distorted.
Light from Over 13 Billion Years ago, finally hit that detector and became historic
we live? #JWST
Did someone forget the time zone and Daylight saveings time?
#JWST holding the world!
#JWST Status: COMPLETE! It is now official as per the "WhereIsWebb" site: JWST is now ready for science! ALL of the telescope's scientific instruments have been checked out and declared fully commissioned!
#JWST is publicly releasing its future viewing schedule. Updates every Friday.

Before they can #UnfoldTheUniverse & start science, the team must test, calibrate, verify and sign off on each mode of operation for Webb’s 4 instruments. There are 17 instrument modes in total! Follow along on their “Where Is Webb?” tracker: #JWST http://webb.nasa.gov/whereiswebb
Please witeness the fully focused and nearly fully operational James Webb Space Telescope #JWST
Would you look at the small scale of that thing!

#JWST update The image from each mirror segment has been identified and moved into a pre-planned position that mimics hexagonal shape of the mirror. Coming up: focus mirrors and align all the segments into one image.
actual selfie of the #JWST primary mirror!!! Taken using a "pupil imaging lens" inside NIRCam designed strictly for engineering and alignment. The one bright segment reflects light from a bright star into the camera; the others segments aren’t yet aligned. Credit: NASA
#JWST mirror alignment update. Images have been analyzed and each segment reflection has been identified. Now begins the process of alignment for a sharp focused image
#JWST L2 insertion burn scheduled for January 24th at 2pm EST. Lasting about 5 minutes
Another step towards #JWST science – all 18 primary mirror segments (& the secondary) are now at their "neutral" positions 👍
Next: 3 months of tip, tilt, rotate, piston, & bend to align, focus, & phase them to nanometre precision across the whole 6.5m aperture.
Best kind of tension is the tension completed with #JWST sunshield. IMHO. One of the more critical and difficult parts of deployment.
And the best thing EVER. a live infographic of the #JWST as it takes it's journey. it will even include temperatures of the craft and where it is in both space, and stages of deployment
