met some casual guitar player dudes this evening who were politely but skeptically interested when my Aunt told them that I too, was a musician. Funny to see their demeanor change as i answered each question. 😂
@Camerondotca well to be fair, there's no reason I'd be "recognized" or anyone would assume I'd had a nice big fat career. But yeah, I think if I'd been male there wouldn't have been the slight condescension. I was polite and humble regardless coz this is the way.
@KathyValentine I suppose. I’d recognize you, but mostly because of the documentary and being a gogo’s fan.
@KathyValentine I can just imagine how the conversation went. “So, were you like in a band or something?” 😆
@GaryPoole very close!
@KathyValentine @GaryPoole oooo to be a fly on that wall.
@KathyValentine I can only imagine. The drummer in my last band was a woman and got a lot of flak from drummer dudes. Considering she was mentored by Bun E. Carlos from Cheap Trick, she could literally drum circles around most of the “dudes”. It was amusing to see their machismo evaporate.
@KathyValentine so misogyny is alive and well across the pond?
@KathyValentine
It will never end. I’ve had friends pretend not to know anything. That can be quite entertaining.
@KathyValentine that has a nice mix of mansplaining and ignorance.
