I wanted to check in today because I hear that Trump is thinking of ditching Truth Social and coming back to Twitter. Not happy about that but not as upset as I would be if I were still on twitter.

And it's amazing how when you deactivate your twitter account you don't miss it like you thought you would. I have no clue what Musk is tweeting these days and that's a relief. But leaving twitter doesn't solve everything. Still very worried about Trump 2024. But glad to be at Counter Social.

@BrianHjelleVirologist I think one or two of the GOP holdouts will cave and vote for McCarthy. But the worry is the GOP's plans for the debt ceiling next year. I keep hoping there are still a handful of GOP moderate congress members left who would never allow the US to default on our debt but I'm not sure and McCarthy has shown himself to go along with whatever the extremes want

@CherNohio I'm feeling that way too. Counter Social has been around for 5 years and it's a friendly place. I'm still on twitter but Musk is turning it into his own personal megaphone with users being shown the door if they offend him. I want to start posting more here at Counter Social.

Many years ago the TV show ER which I was really attached to made a plot decision that betrayed my trust, killing off a main character I cared about in an insulting and cruel way.

I stopped watching ER and the withdrawal was hard but eventually I found other TV shows and I feel the same way now regarding twitter and though I am still signed on there I am drastically limiting my time on twitter and am glad to have found counter social

@JustJarv I think right and left posting here is fine provided that the conspiracy theorists don't arrive. People can state their views but insults and hate speech are a no no for me. It's why I am increasingly limiting myself on twitter.

@DrJackBrown That is true in medicine but I wonder these days if it still applies to politics. The GOP has been silent on Trump's bad behavior for years and as I write this I can't be sure that he won't be reelected in 2024. I hope not but half of our country is living in denial about this man.

@th3j35t3r I was pleased when twitter went to 280 characters and I think I speak for many when I say I have never needed more than that. And 4000 characters is an invitation for people to ramble on. But it's probably the least of the questionable decisions Musk is making.

@kimoak I am sorry about that and that's twitter for you and the new management there is making it worse. I am glad you are here in the US and as for me I have always admired England. It's not just the great writers: Austen, the Brontes, Dickens, George Gissing (my personal favorite) but it's also the Magna Carta and the tremendous courage the British people showed during the blitz in World War II I wish I could also be proud of America but we are so divided as a country.

It's so nice hear at Counter Social. People are thoughtful, talking meaninfully on all kinds of subjects and this site is restoring my faith in humanity.

Its a good idea to make a list of the books you want to read in 2023. Will you stick exactly to the list? Probably not but it's nice to set goals. One goal for me is rereading Wuthering Heights next year. I first read it 20 years ago and I knew at the time it was a masterpiece but on another level I never really understood it.. And so a second and deeper reading along with checking out what the critics say is needed. #CoSoBooks

@AuntCrabby I so hope Warnock is reelected because if Walker wins Trump will be celebrating and the GOP will be right there behind him. It's clear they have learned nothing from the midterms.
