#Caturday Four years ago, I bought a Catrina. When I tried to take a picture of it to put it on Facebook, Richard Parker insisted on getting in it.
I had to put Richard up for adoption when I moved from Mexico back to Canada last year, mainly because he and my other cat just wouldn't stop fighting. Richard is now in Guanajuato, and doing fine. Both cats are happier since they were separated.
#CoSoMusic #CoSoCanucks I'm in Kelowna, #BritishColumbia for a concert by #BruceCockburn. Here is the view from my room at the Royal Anne Hotel.
A recommendation to travelers in #Mexico: the Durango-MazatlΓ‘n highway is well worth doing. The scenery is beautiful, and the highway itself is an engineering marvel. In particular, the Baluarte Bicentennial Bridge is the highest bridge in the Americas, and the third-highest cable-stayed bridge in the world.
My previous visit to Durango, #Mexico was in July, 2020, and at that time, all public buildings were closed because of the pandemic.
Today, I was able to visit the Francisco Villa Museum and the Paseo del Viejo Oeste. The latter was a set used in many Western films, and is now a theme park. They perform a pageant several times a day.
Finally, I'm staying at the Hotel Roma, opened in 1918. It was a fancy place in its time; it has a manual elevator. Pancho Villa stayed there.
Spent a good part of today at the Hospicio CabaΓ±as in Guadalajara, #Mexico. Awsome place, with murals by JosΓ© Clemente Orozco. The mural I've included here is a depiction of Cortez.
Another picture from today's expedition to Dolores Hidalgo, #Mexico
This is the Parroquia de Nuestra SeΓ±ora de los Dolores, where Hidalgo gave the "grito" of Mexican independence. So, Dolores Hidalgo can be considered the Philadelphia of Mexico.
Having a carrot gelato on the Plaza del Grande Hidalgo in Dolores Hidalgo.
The road from Guanajuato to Dolores Hidalgo is among the most scenic in #Mexico.
#caturday I had to leave Richard Parker behind when I made the move from Mexico to Canada in May, because he and my other cat just fought all the time. I visited him and his new servants yesterday. He seems OK, and has gained a little weight. He's obviously camera shy.
#Mexico I bought a rebozo at the Mercado Hidalgo in Guanajuato Capital. I'll be able to wear it in Kamloops, BC.
#Mexico After two weeks exploring Mexican beaches, and eight months away from Guanajuato Capital, I returned late last night, after an all-day bus ride from LΓ‘zaro CΓ‘rdenas.
This is the Mercado Hidalgo, which has the distinction of being one of the last (perhaps THE last) buildings of the Porfiriate. PorfiriΓ³ Diaz was chased out of Mexico in 1911, and this building wasn't completed until 1912.
#mexico One of my objectives for this trip was to do some sightseeing on the MichoacΓ‘n coast, a Mexican treasure that not many people know about. I had to go to some trouble, but I pulled it off today. Rode a bus to Nexpa, 60 km. west of Playa Azul. (That's right, west; the coastline here runs west-east.) There are a lot of little towns like this one on the MichoacΓ‘n coast; this one has a lot of surfers and "extranjeros."
