Them: “So many people are diagnosed with ADHD ✨these ✨ days, it’s nothing more than a scam to push pills.”
Me: OR, is it possible… that during the global pandemic/lockdowns… a lot more people saw mental health professionals who would’ve never otherwise gone and seen one due to [insert reason here]? And also because of the fact that we have a better understanding of it, and more diagnostic tools/tests available today than when you were a younger… THAT may be why? Just saying. 🤷🏽♂️ #ADHD
@Dogofalltrees it's probably a little of column A and B tbh. the US' private healthcare system is untrustworthy enough that i wouldn't put incentives to misdiagnose people past them
@Dogofalltrees it can be really hard to tell sometimes. like when i started seeking treatment for my severe social anxiety, i had a psych that was quick to get me on a SSRI, which didn't appear to be making a difference. but my anxiety got much better over time regardless, so i kept taking them. a few years later i have to see a new GP and he immediately wants me to take something else that is contraindicated with it, and likely could have killed me if i took them both together
@JillyRabbit holy s**t. Yeah, that’s crazy, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I ended up with an excellent physician, and she’s super good at her job too. But then again, I have a BA and an MA in Psychology… so, I think I knew what to look for in a good physician when it came to ADHD.
