#NationalFireNews: July 11, 2024. Wildfire activity continues to escalate due to extremely hot and dry conditions in many areas. Right now, 74 large active wildfires are being managed nationwide, and have burned 681,569 acres. Fire managers are using full suppression strategies on 33 of these wildfires.
More than 14,400 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned to incidents across the nation.
We mourn the loss of Juliana Turchetti, one of Brazil's first female ag pilots and later U.S. ag and FireBoss pilot. Juliana lost her life yesterday in a FireBoss accident while fighting an active fire in Montana. An advocate for ag aviation, she has contributed many articles to our U.S., Brazilian, and Spanish publications and will be missed.
