What ever happened to the news that wasn't one sided? I remember newspapers that would put a story out based on what the facts were and then may have learned later on that they were missing part of the story and so they would post an update. I miss news that lets you figure it out based on the facts and not just already feeding you their thoughts built in.
One example from my research - a woman involved as a defendant said, on the stand (I have the court transcript) that she was "desperately in love" with one of the killers. Newspapers quoted her as saying she was "violently in love" - and every newspaper down the line repeated that line.
@Agatha Sad but true. I was interviewed by a local TV reporter and they cut out parts of my statement and took it out of context to make it "news worthy".
A story as old as time... π
@JeffWeir
It never existed. Sure, a few here and there were like that, but go check out your typical local paper from ca 1900 and you'll find it's full of mistakes and outright lies.
I once researched a local murder from 1929. Involved 3 states and ended in 2 executions, so I got newspapers from all areas involved. Absolutely terrible jobs covering the case. The reporters would regularly change what witnesses said on the stand so they could create their own narrative.
