As we encounter new phenomena, science uses the scientific method to try and understand that phenomena. It examines evidence and if old theories need to be updated or abandoned, it does so.
Religions, on the other hand, attempt to answer 21st-century questions with the knowledge we possessed 2000 years ago, back when we still believed in dragons and bloodletting.
If humans are to advance, we can't be wedded to ancient science.
