Religion has codified two lies that have been absolutely fatal for the human race. One, that we will never die, that we'll be "born again" and go live with god after death. So you don't have to value this life, you'll get another chance. And two is related. God will forgive you for anything you do and you'll get to live forever. No matter how disgusting a human being you are, it's OK. No problem. Just repent as you're dying and collect your prize.
