I don't like that Bezos owns the WaPost (power concentration + lack of regulation).
But isn't Twitter basically Internet infrastructure?
West Governements should meet and fix these obvious issues.

@JebKFan

No, a web site is NOT "infranet infrastructure" by ANY conceivable stretch of the imagination.

That's like "my garage is a freeway".

@mcfate In theory, you are right... but how many people and companies rely on Twitter to send news? In theory they can switch to another service, but in practice people have inertia...

@JebKFan Historically, very wealthy families owned and controlled local media, but there were limits on how much they could own. It was a literal percentage of reach in a market. The limit today is on broadcast (TV/radio) and is 39% of the US. You often had competing newspapers - one liberal, one more conservative, depending on ownership. It's complicated with the Internet and nobody has figured out how to handle it.

@sherean Yeah, it's totally uncharted waters. Plus there are all the virality and echo chambers issues on top of that.

@JebKFan I worked for a legacy media company (Cox) in the late 90s as part of the interactive team, tasked with getting arms around the WWW (wild wild web). The pivot to proving ROI with digital ads was a MISTAKE. I could go on, but I have to get some work done today!
