HiPOD 16 Dec 2022: A Patchy Outcrop of Light-Toned Materials

This observation targets patchy exposures of light-toned outcrops. These materials may be chloride bearing. Erosion appears to have cut through the entirety of the light-toned materials, which should allow probing of the stratigraphic context, thickness and any possible internal layering of these materials.

@Pat_Walrond Possibly. It would't be the first glitch I've found in my wanderings of the internet, haha.

Thanks for your assistance!

@ceorl Ah, that's a good tip – I'll try to keep that mind. Thanks yet again!

@ceorl I'm new to the platform, but guessed that either something in my post seemed fishy to the filters (as the post had quotes, a link, and numerous hashtags), or it was just a minor glitch of some sort.

I tried removing various words and hashtags, and messed with the formatting, until it posted.

I don't mind tinkering with posts if that's a thing, so good to know – thanks! !e

I figured it out – it won't let me post a three–letter word starting with 'p', ending in 'e', with an 'i' smack dab in the middle.

Once removed, I could make my most previous post.

This is a test, because I can't make my actual post.

HiPOD 15 Dec 2022: Hearts in Atlantis, Dunes in Hellas

Scientists on the HiRISE team take multiple pictures of the same dune fields on the Red Planet to see if they can detect subtle changes that would indicate if the dunes are moving. Some Martian dune fields do shift and move under the present day environmental conditions, but at a rate that is typically much slower than dunes move on Earth.

HiPOD 8 Dec 2022: Pristine with Gullies

We call this 7-kilometer diameter crater “pristine” because while it is old, the rim is fairly sharp and not very eroded. The science goal for this observation is to investigate the topography of the east-facing wall, pictured here, where gullies and mantling deposits transition to the normal crater wall.
