I gotta say that the Victorians absolutely fascinate me in terms of their focus.

Crazy clowns. Dead birds. Stabbed amphibians. I'll start posting the walking vegetables in time.

Gotta admire the thought of burning someone with a hot poker was a great holiday greeting.

@see_the_sus #keyboards I grew up using manual typewriters. Electric in high school. Later the keyboards with desktops. Love the flat laptop design because I have issues with my wrists and I use it as a wrist rest and only lift my fingers. So far I'm staving off carpal tunnel surgery using this technique. 😉

We're all different in our body mechanics and our approach to what we like.

#Life went to a Walmart Superstore today to get a prescription (the only place I can consistently get it) and was greeted by 2 women singing holiday songs by a Salvation Army Kettle, Toys for Tots, a radio station raising money to help disadvantaged kids, and PATH (People Attempting To Help).

I picked up several things for PATH.

As I used to work for Sally Ann, I donated to them because of the huge treatment facility here. No insurance required, no questions asked.

@LnzyHou #Victorianholidaycards do an Internet search on them and they show up. You can also do an Internet search on vintage Christmas cards and get Christmas cards from the 50s and 40s. You can also look for vintage Hanukkah cards.

I go for vintage or Victorian, because I am looking for things that are still under copyright because I don’t want to be infringing.

@Snipticker #Victorianholdaycards I’m one of those people that wonders why people do the things they do. I started doing research and there are of course, researchers who specialize in this sort of thing, so I read their material.

Some of those beliefs go back to Greek philosophy. But I think a lot of the symbolism in Victorian card is because of the extremely high death rate, especially among children during that time. It may be trying to laugh at mortality using symbols

From what I can find out, the Victorians considered frogs and toads as symbols of evil. Or doom. Or death.

So let's put them on a holiday card, right?

Pliny the Elder didn't understand frogs can overwinter in the mud. He thought the died in winter and were reborn in the spring.

Some researchers see this as a Victorian morality play.

Whatever the reason, these cards are intriguing.

I just find the Victorians view of the holidays intriguing.

The were obsessed by death and dying, bats, birds, and frogs. Why?

Killing a robin or a wren was considered good luck in December. Particularly on Saint Stephen's Day on Dec. 26th.

@Medussas_Fury #Covid In the "for what it is worth" dept. a relative who works in rehab with women addicts who are incarcerated has gotten Covid three times now despite getting all the shots and wearing high-end masks.

I'm glad you haven't gotten it. Or that you got it and had zero symptoms.

Its quite likely I got it and was asymptomatic. I've been considering getting tested to see if that was the case.

It does pay to be careful, though. Immunizations and masks help.
