I am predominantly right-handed, but do a lot with my left that I just can’t do right-handed, not ambidextrous by any stretch. I don’t know if it goes to how I read a pattern and can follow along, but knitting completely throws my brain in a tizzy where crocheting “makes sense.” It’s kind of like playing piano vs viola for me…I cannot sight read for piano (despite 10+ years of lessons) but can instantly sight read for a viola or cello (fingering left/bowing right.)

I've had a similar experience. My nonna taught me how to crochet when I was about 7. I am ok with a crochet hook now, but cannot for the life of me figure out how to knit.
@JLordanKelly Are you right-handed or left-handed? My righty mother taught me to knit, which has always felt awkward, but I (a lefty) taught myself how to crochet left-handed, which feels more natural.
Possibly also relevant: left-handed stitching crafts grow from left to right, in the same direction that the pattern is written. Right-handed stitching grows from right to left, which has always felt backwards to me.
