@badger33 And I understand that Trump's complaining about the 2% part, but I guess my overall question is about overseas military spending (sorry, kinda hastily tooted the first time) that's prompted by Trump's complaints about NATO spending. How big should our footprint be overseas, and is our footprint so large because other countries (whether NATO or not) don't spend as much or do we need that large footprint to serve our interests anyway? Interesting convo: shar.es/1MZw4A

@J4BB3RW0CK And in no way would I want us to pull out of NATO. And I know a lot of our military abroad is for our own interest (I was a military brat as a kid, stationed overseas once).

Ok, honest question. First, the disclaimer: I hate Trump. (Well, hate's strong for someone I've never met, but you understand). So question: Even if Trump's rhetoric on this is, well, horrible/inciting, should we actually be having a debate on how much military spending is related to activities such as NATO? We complain about military spending compared to whole budget, but how much is due to similar situations? I haven't researched

@beard Dang, I was gonna buy 1 when is dropped some yesterday. Missed my chance! 😀

@RAO I have a friend whose dad, who has diabetes, went into the hospital right before hurricane after dropping something on his foot, breaking it. They had to send him home right before it hit. Foot got infected, so went back in after hurricane, had to have amputation. Friend was able to get him, mom, niece, niece’s husband, their kids flown to US for dad to recover in decent conditions (mom wouldn’t come without niece, family). Friend had the means to do this. A lot of folks didn’t / don’t

@MisterE Thanks! Been mostly observing in the corner for a couple of weeks now...

So sad. These deaths in Puerto Rico could have been avoided / minimized. And everyone saw it coming. American citizens, left to die

@Txcowboy It’d be ironic if the thug got his gun by stealing it from a careless conceal-carry person (not saying all are careless ... just too many, including one of out my neighbors’ car where he left two guns and ammo in car, unlocked, though I think the wife left unlocked). More guns in circulation = more gun crime. We need a national discussion / debate. stltoday.com/news/national/gun

@Jackal @Suzy I was thinking the same thing after seeing a couple of recent posts by him. Maybe he's finally seen that he needs to distance himself from previous support of 45 and group pretty quickly. Or that Walsh has been kidnapped

@txgal First cup down, almost ready for day. Almost. Second cup coming up

Yay, Friday! And the dog let us sleep in until our 5:15 alarm. Good start!

@catlynne333 I thinkJimmy Carter's "Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid" is a pretty good read on the subject. He writes about peace talks and the complications, and he gives a pretty good background of the conflicts from his view and experience negotiating a peace treaty. He goes into what a 2-state solution physically means and ultimately what Palestinians were looking for back then (as backed by the UN, which was never honored)

@TKW406 My wife hates it with a passion. I originally turned it on out of curiosity, then to get a reaction from the wife. Now I find it oddly appealing, a simple (albeit stupid at times) show I find myself flipping it on if I see it’s on (but by no means seeking it out).

@happy_trex @FeedingTubePaul Here’s a thread on that twitter.com/c_stroop/status/938127850347130880. I’d say crazy conspiracy stuff, but who knows anymore?

@beard Yeah, so is anyone else a wee bit worried about tomorrow's possible announcement from the WH?

@ChippySuave @3L3V3NTH Yeah, that’s why part of me was hoping she’d said something. At the same time, I could see it devolving into a shouting match. Host was probably caught off guard and didn’t really know how to respond otherwise. Though what would have been cool is if she’d just stop the interview right there. Say that comment was uncalled for and sick and that we’ll move on to the next segment. Shut it down!

@3L3V3NTH What a sick thing to say. I half wanted to see the CNN host say, “Excuse me?” but also glad she moved on quickly as it would’ve escalated.
