As our daughters are now adults (both in college, but the oldest fully moving out this weekend) and we’re transitioning to be empty nesters, Thanksgiving hits a bit different this year. Not super sad or anything — we had a simple dinner with our daughters and one boyfriend today — just different. Soon they’ll totally have their own lives not living with us, and that’s ok. It’s just weird to think that in just a few years, we won’t see them on a daily/weekly basis

I once had thoughts/ fears about the empty nest too. Then Covid happened and a few health issues came up. The door was open and I have an adult son living with me. Life is unpredictable we are all working this out. Taking care of each other- balancing roommate and parenting expectations. Enjoy today - we don’t know what tomorrow brings.

@Megalicious thanks for the words. And it’s not necessarily a fear or even a sadness (went through that when oldest daughter moved out just before covid; she returned home after covid, so that was kind of a trial run). I’m excited for them as they start going down their own paths, and I’m excited for myself and wife as we’re still relatively young. But definitely starting to see how it’s a bit different now 🙂
