Okay fellow guitar/musician/prog nerds...
Here we have a bit of Vai talking about woodshedding to "do the Fripp part."
Disagree, my dear dear dearest Bixelicious!
Prog is more akin to classical/composed music -- highly orchestrated...whereas jazz will have a theme (or "head") then improvisation/soloing (or "blowing") then return to the stated theme.
Your first lesson is free because you are loved. ❤️ 😜
The idea that there's a Crimson bible with every part transcribed is bit overwhelming...
Here it (the "Discipline era" with "THRAK") is! I'll snag it at some point, probably...🤓

I'm thinking there's a Crimson/Fripp version, as mentioned in this long interview a few times
Of the transcriptions
Yeah, that's the Fripp-sanctioned edition. Transcribed by Gabriel Riccio and tabbed by Trey Gunn who was in Crimson from '94 to '03.

I could only ever listen to this stoned. I love King Crimson, don’t get me wrong. Discipline is my favorite album of theirs. My best friend and I went to see Fripp in San Diego. Excellent evening.
Can tell you with 100% confidence that I got VERY STONED before I saw 'em in St. Pete '95. 👍 😎
I have never listened to Vai and when I heard he's doing Fripp's part in Beat I tracked down some stuff from throughout his career... and I don't care for any of it.
I hear ya and get it. I have a soft spot for him cuz he reminds me of some Long Islanders/Noo Yawkas I know, also his Zappa years ('80-'82). But yeah, his solo stuff and the Whitesnake/Alcatraz/DLR stints aren't my cup of tea. OTOH he sat in with Living Colour a while back and that was good!
This is the tune Vai referred to as having "the beautiful middle part."
Will admit to being intrigued with the Vai-as-Fripp-interpreter aspect...
