Looks like I'm going to learn something about how well my house deals with the heat, in the next few days.
So far it hasn't been awful; the place is mostly lath-and-plaster & most of the windows have been updated to insulative vinyl. The outside of the house is also white, so it reflects heat & light.
@Impious_Jade You might consider spraying the underside of your roof (attic area) with reflective paint. It will keep the heat in in the winter and out in the summer.
I haven't done that yet cuz I have trees that shield my house. And I'd have to hire someone cuz I literally can't crawl up in there. LOL
@TrueBloodNet @Impious_Jade We have a heat barrier in our attic that was stapled in. Looks like NASA foil fabric. Afterwards the attic was filled with blown in insulation.
@floryloughead @Impious_Jade That's what I have too. Man those guys looked awful when they crawled out. LOL I might be getting close to needing a top up though..
@TrueBloodNet @Impious_Jade They went into our attic at 5AM, it was not as bad as it could be,
@TrueBloodNet Not a bad idea! I do have trees on one side of the house but not the other, so I get full sun a good portion of the day. Not so bad for the solar panels, but does warm the upstairs up something fierce.
@Impious_Jade Ah.. a second downside to solar roof panels.. right after the insurance issue... did they make yours go up?
@TrueBloodNet My homeowner's insurance? No, that hasn't changed at all.
@Impious_Jade So that's just a Florida issue?
@TrueBloodNet Maybe? I'm up in WA so not sure about FL regulations. I know it varies by state.
@Impious_Jade Ah okies. I just read an article last week about how in FL folks insurance is skyrocketing if they install solar panels on the roof.
It totally makes sense FL didn't put in regs to prevent that..
@TrueBloodNet Yeah totally. FL, sadly, sucks. :(
It was 93F on the porch last night just before dusk, and the interior walls were warm but not uncomfortable. The upstairs gets hella hot tho'.
