Just learned of the structural conflict between two trades I always assumed were allies: the underground service alert crews and the utility trenching crews.
I should have figured it out sooner: the USA crews are only going to locate accurately enough to stay out of trouble; if the utility crews have to dig twice as much to actually find a pipe, it's not their problem.
Another case of industry setting workers against each other.

In 2021, Republicans in the Georgia General Assembly passed a slate of voting restrictions including the ability of any person to question the voting rights of unlimited number of citizens from the same county.
The result has been thousands of "voter challenges" that principally target poor or homeless people and voters of color. Believing Trump won the 2020 election and prompted by God and Cleta Mitchell, Gail Lee has challenged approximately 500 voters.

Someone asked yesterday if our decision to replace our gas appliances with electric was "political." I honestly don't understand the question. For one thing, there were incentives: they were all old, and we got rebates for their replacements, they add to our house's resale value--so, narrow self-interest. For another, what's the difference "political" and "not political" anyway?

@LiberalLibrarian @MLClark @LiseL Honestly. I've been speaking and quite upset about the Uyghur genocide for years. This new Temu website, seems to be sourcing a lot of products from their slave labor camps.
Oppression has become so so systematized and integrated into the world supply chain its become near invisible. I've seen stats like 66% of chocolate is source from slave or child labor. Coffee and bananas might as well be called conflict crops.
It's a lot.

What the Texas Court decision shows is that even abortion bans with supposed exceptions for life and health are, in fact, complete abortion bans, because the legal difficulties in establishing the exception can keep a pregnant woman in legal limbo until she carries, miscarries, or is dead.
None of this is about "saving the children." All of this is about punishing women for the crime of having a uterus.

The Calder and Hokusai exhibits at Seattle Art Museum are amazing. We tried to get the Calder mobiles to move without touching them (or getting busted by the guards) by discreetly blowing at them, with some success. Two of my faves are shown here.
The one with the brass gong actually could ring, I think, but we weren't able to apply the right wind.

Both the Jewish and Palestinian peoples have an unshakable right to a nation-state. So why are you chanting 'From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,' an annihilationist slogan, and not 'Palestine and Israel, side by side'?
Normies, please -- I would never dream of taking your scented soaps, shampoos, lotions, and whatnot away from you -- I know how much joy they give you -- it's literally in the air -- but could we please not make scented the default? Could I just once walk out of a bathroom with clean hands that don't reek of lavender/honeysuckle/apple/whatever? Could we make scenting oneself an option?

Inflation rose 14% between July 2020 and July 2022.
But corporate profits rose 75% over those two years — 5X as fast as inflation.
Profits are still hovering near record highs, hitting $3.28 trillion for Q3 2023.
Can we stop blaming higher prices on workers' wages?
So called inflation is clearly nothing more than price fixing and price gouging by corporations ripping off consumers
