@mcfate Gauges?
@LiberalLibrarian Yeah, a bullet that travels more than a hundred feet and *just misses* your skull but takes out part of your ear, and only that, is pretty unlikely. A chunk of debris, though, that's plausible.
I absolutely will not believe he went up there with a squib concealed behind his ear. That's a lovely conspiracy theory but it's bollocks. Too many moving parts, and not his MO. He's a showman, not a stuntman.
@Museek "Encouraging" them to stop? That's money in the bank for him. He'll spin it like the deep state, the Biden/Harris/Obama/Soros-controlled Secret Service, is trying to keep him indoors, but he cares nothing for what they call "safety"! He's going to be with his people, safe or not! "They don't want me out here with you. They want me in some dinky little hall that can't hold a crowd half this size. But who cares what they want? I don't, do you?"
@LiberalLibrarian Musk not only can't tell merit from advantage, he can't tell courage from bravado.
@mcfate TFG could find martyrdom in his own birthday party.
Within two weeks he'll say to one of his crowds, "They didn't think Sleepy Joe was too old. He's older than me -- but no, he wasn't too old. Now they're saying *I'm* too old. What do you think? Am I too old?"
And he will never admit to losing the 2020 or (I hope) 2024 election. Like Columbus who died believing he'd reached India, he'll go to his grave believing every election he lost was "stollen."

@mcfate He'll love it. He loves to play the martyr.
@Cosmichomicide I honestly don't understand how anyone could look at TFG and not come away thinking "ANYONE but him!" The guy is such an obvious grifter, such an obvious idiot, such an obvious criminal, such a manifest danger to democracy.
This is the easiest electoral choice in decades. David Sedaris's airline food comparison is more apt than ever.

@DavidSalo Here’s my bet: no one will be named before the convention, and probably as late as possible then. All our fevered speculation is free publicity, and as soon as it gets resolved it'll be replaced by more internecine bickering.
#politics
@mcfate Why would he learn? The GOP honestly believes it can influence people with subliminal cues like "DemocRAT." And mispronouncing non-Anglo names is an age-old way of othering. It'll be "Kuh-MAH-luh" forever, and they'll expect thanks for not mangling it worse than that.
It's like when white Southerners stopped saying "ni**er" but refused to say "Negro," insisting that "nigra" was close enough. Words have power. Mangling someone's name is a power play -- perfect for a schmuck like TFG.
@Tolemac Not gonna be Whitmer -- they're not going to run a two-woman ticket. You could argue that misogyny won't hurt a two-woman ticket any worse than it would a one-woman ticket, but I disagree.
And Buttigieg -- I wish, he's brilliant. But I think homophobia is still too strong, and unlike the three governors listed, he probably wouldn't carry his state. Josh Shapiro would probably bring in 51 electoral votes.

The endless "debate" about keeping Biden on the ticket reminds me of the conspiracy theories about JFK's assassination. None could be proved, those who held any of them were absolutely sure they were smarter than those who doubted them, and their only purpose (IMHO) was to distract us.
@AskTheDevil @DavidSalo Give up? That guy started angling for the presidency fifty years ago, before about a fifth of our Congresscritters were born. Why would he give up now?
@JazzCrafter
Fill in the blank and post.
I would vote for _a_truckload_of_elephant_dung_
before I would vote for Trump and republicans.
I'm not as rabid about it as I was in 2018, when any candidate that looked even palatable to Republicans was automatically out -- I know there actually are a few reasonable pro-democracy Republicans and I want to encourage them -- but there's always a better candidate who's not a Republican.
As for Trump -- a truckload of elephant dung would be much better.
@Maude Yes, by law laid down in American colonies in the 17th century and followed through the abolition of slavery, the condition of the child follows the condition of the mother. So most of Trump's kids will have to apply for naturalization.
@Maude @InUnfunky Be kind. It's easy to lose your mind when it's that tiny.
@DavidSalo It's odd that the guy who was too vain to wear a mask wore such a conspicuous bandage. I know the bandage itself well, from experience -- 2×3-inch non-stick with adhesive pads, perfect for small fresh wounds. And I'm sure he doesn't want anyone to see the wound, it'll make a picturesque scar but at this point it's nasty. But you'd think he, of all people, would cover it up better. Unless he wants to make it part of his shtick.
@BreakingNews And three-fourths of us want a pony.
I swear we're spoiled by eight years of Obama charisma. We used to just hold our noses and vote for the one who stunk a bit less than the other. Now if we don't get candidate with a winning shtick we just stay home and let the GQP run wild.
@estherschindler Who in the world would want to watch (and listen to) Windows 98 revealing yet again what a piece of garbage OS it was? Besides me, I mean.
Grew up in Cupertino before Apple, lived in Berkeley, now retired in South Puget Sound. He/him.
