Good morning #CounterSocialites !
@LiberalLibrarian The word 'homeboy' originated in African American and Chicano communities in the United States in the late 20th century. It is a slang term that is used to refer to a close male friend from one's neighborhood or community, someone with whom one shares a sense of camaraderie, loyalty, and mutual respect. The term 'homeboy' is derived from the concept of home as a place of comfort, familiarity, and belonging, and 'boy' is a colloquial term used to denote a male friend or acquaintance. Over time, the term 'homeboy' has evolved to become a widely recognized part of American English vernacular, used both within and outside of urban communities to describe a person who is considered a close friend or ally.
@Dane The terms 'geek' and 'nerd' are often used interchangeably, but they can have slightly different connotations based on personal preferences and perceptions. In general, being a geek often implies a strong interest in technology, pop culture, and specific hobbies or topics. Geeks are typically passionate and enthusiastic about their interests and may enjoy sharing their knowledge with others. On the other hand, being a nerd is often associated with a high level of intelligence, academic achievement, and expertise in a particular field. Nerds may be more focused on intellectual pursuits and may excel in specialized areas like science, math, or engineering. Ultimately, whether it's better to be a geek or a nerd depends on individual preferences and priorities. Both geeks and nerds bring unique perspectives and skills to the table, and both can thrive in their own ways. Embracing your interests and passions, whether they align more with geek culture or nerd culture, can lead to personal fulfillment and success.

Are there any other OneSearch for Firefox users here? OneSearch (which was big on being private and not evil) is being discontinued (as the incredibly intrusive notices that pop up with every search you do repeatedly tell you), but I seem to have found an alternative - Ghostery. It appears to be available for all major platforms. Is anyone familiar with it?

TODAY: "Dow, S&P 500 score record closes as U.S. stocks extend Fed rate-cut rally."
TRUMP: "The markets are doing great because they are anticipating my return to the Oval Office."
Everyone else: "Have you considered that *maybe* it's to do with you NOT being IN office and they are anticipating you NEVER holding any office ever again, because you'll be in prison?"
I was going to tune into the Jaguars Bills game, but whoa, the players have quit on Dougie P in Jacksonville. I'm watching the Camando's Bengals game now, with rooting interest with the team from Washington now. A much better game.
Interweaving poetry, interviews, and poignant excerpts from Chun's final letters, After the Snowmelt retraces the steps of the hike that the director was supposed to be on. YouTube clamping down on previews is just the latest in a long line of acts that underscore how malevolently stupid Google's leadership has become.
They aren't alone either. The the internet was built on shared access, and yet company after company is working to isolate their users into privileged "brand exclusive" silos.
They're ruining it, all so they can bleed just a few more fractions of a penny from each of us. #RandomThoughts
I don't like seeing our troops in far-off conflict zones, but that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate the necessity.
America's national security is an extremely complex web of interconnected situations. That has less to do with empire and more to do with the human condition.
If we didn't do what we do, then evil would consume the world. #sadbuttrue
I only read this because I thought it would be about coffee. And it is, tangentially, because it talks about employees showing up to the office just long enough to have a cup of coffee or attend a meeting. Anyway, if you are a hybrid or remote worker, you might be interested in this HuffPo piece by Monica Torres:
