One of the Carolina wrens who sings in our backyard most mornings has started taking advantage of the nesting material we offer.

I think this might be true blue comfrey, a Midwest native. Not positive though? It is lovely.

This downy woodpecker is hanging on for peanuts in some crazy Kansas wind!

Lunch: tinned fish with sweet red pepper, Vermont cheddar, castelvetrano olives and triscuits.

It is January 3rd and this container is located in NE KS. While this should look good in October and even November, it shouldn’t look like this in January.🙄

Not my photo and I don’t know who to credit, but a pair of these lovely Carolina wrens are enjoying a gourmet lunch of fresh mealworms from our refrigerator- yum!

The temp has dropped to 105 here, heat index 108. This poor hummer has been perched here for over 10 minutes. I have never seen them perch for this long until now. The bird sips occasionally, but he is just holding his mouth open most of the time. Maybe this helps with cooling? I fear this might be something like heat exhaustion in a human. 😢
