For the evening crew: Heads-up: We have to replace our furnace, the tech told me about a new EPA rule that goes into effect in January 2025 regarding air conditioner refrigerant. It's going to cost $1 to 2,000 more per unit (and that's before tariff fuckery).

If you have the option of replacing you furnace with a heat pump you might want to consider that? Everyone’s situation varies, but we did this about 2 years ago and it is a huge win in multiple ways.

@HopeSeeker heat pump is part of the plan. We also have solar panels In the long run it should be a good situation as far as utilities are concerned. Thanks!

@CanisPundit

oh good. that sounds like a good solution 👌🏽

@HopeSeeker @CanisPundit :cosign: We went from separate furnace/AC to a heat pump & have been quite comfortable.

It hasn't been a clear win for us in terms of operating costs (tho no worse either) but I expect we will enjoy the $2k tax credit (energystar.gov/about/federal-t) when we file our 2024 return. Plus we're putting less carbon into the atmosphere, which is nice.

@rpardee @CanisPundit Yes, the tax credit was a huge motivator for us. I think it will soon be history, but maybe if one is lucky there is time?
