Old Forrester was one of my favorite discount spirits because it had better flavor and finish than bourbons twice its price.
The problem is that in the two years I have found it, the price has been going up steadily. If you can still find it cheap it's my #1 choice.
But Northcross Irish Whiskey is something new I tried out today due to to wanting to find a new bargain basement spirit that punches above it's weight. I'm happy to say we have a contender.
Northcross is super smooth and doesn't have as much "burn" as you'd expect from a 86 proof drink.
It could be a bit more flavor to make it more distinctive but that's me nit picking
