It's crate digging night for you guys tonight on .

I'm starting out with like 5 - 6 rap songs, and then I'm gonna go for the real eclectic stuff. I'll do my best to keep this threaded but no guarantees.

Hang on, and if you hear something you really like lemme know and I can send more recommendations your way.

Did you know that rap legend Andre3000 dropped an amazing verse last year?

You ever see someone so talented that they can seemingly warp reality in their area of expertise? That's Andre3000 in this song.

He has this weird stutter delivery that has emphasis on syllables that fall on the off beat. It shouldn't work, but the mix of the unresolved chords and off-putting sound eventually pays off.

Seat Down Low is from an unofficial mixtape by Lil Wayne and was never commercially released. It's also Wayne's best song. Subject matter wise is drugs, cars, and women, but my gosh the delivery is... Enchanting?

You'd be forgiven if you don't actually try to analyze the lyrics. This song is an example of a rapper at the absolute top of their abilities meshing with the perfect beat for them.

2008 Lil Wayne was a force.

Control is another song that never had an album release.

You *could* start from the beginning of Control, but you really want to just start around 2:55. Kendrick Lamar puts on a clinic on how to steal the spotlight.

Kendrick goes nuts for 3 minutes without a hook, cleverly throwing shade at Farrakhan & name dropping literally everyone.

This is the best Kendrick verse you might have missed.

There might be five rappers in the history of rap who can tell a story like Ghostface Killah.

I don't make the claim lightly. It's not much more for me to say about this one. There is this smooth 70s style beat that matches the heist flick vibe of the song perfectly.

You'll find no better example of how to use a rap song like a paintbrush to paint a vivid picture.

Shakey Dog - Ghostface Killah - Fishscale (2005)

We go eclectic before I intended because I forgot that Shakey Dog uses a sample from another amazing song.

Love is Blue / I Can Sing a Rainbow is an utterly beautiful song. If you don't like the rap, this song might be more up your alley.

If you did listen to the Ghostface, hearing this after is gonna make you appreciate the work put in by Ghost and his production team to create Shakey Dog.

On the last rap song for tonight, Big K.R.I.T. fuses a gospel sound, with a real thought provoking message, and an extended outro to really explain his message.

What makes this song special is the juxtaposition of the gospel things, with the gritty delivery, and understanding that sometimes we just want lavish things to make life seem better, despite knowing that they are... just things.

This is for you trippy CoSo folk Watch the video for this one.

Cirrus is just a light and airy song that makes it difficult not to tap your foot along with. And then the bass kicks in about halfway through to really push the song forward.

This song is an exercise in taking a simple melody and progressively adding elements to the song to create a chaotic, yet pleasing sound.

Beach Dr. by Oddisee answers the question, "What if Herbie Hancock created beats for the Adult Swim Bumps?"

This is an incredibly smooth song with a second kinda hidden song at the end that also sounds like it could easily belong in the 70s.

Most of Oddisee's other songs are rap songs, but this is just a chill and underappreciated instrumental.

Don't sleep on this greatness.

I've posted this one before, but I pinned this music thread to my profile so, this needs to be in my 11 song crate dig.

Prince's cover of Radiohead's Creep is one of the best covers I've ever heard.

Period.

Listen to the legend already.

On Her Majesty's Service is a song that was made for people who truly enjoy hearing a song in stereo.

Let's not even talk about how amazing the song is, and how it sound like the perfect unofficial James Bond song.

The mixing is perfect. The symbols so clean. And boy, I hope your subwoofer is ready for some work cause that bassline is a thing of beauty.

Jamelia by Caribou is a soft haunting song. It's also my favorite on this list.

It's a song of remorse, and lead vocals convey raw, unfiltered emotion.

The R3volve remix takes that pain and adds a progressive beat to it to create something beautiful.

This is another song that with an amazing bassline.

4:15 - 7:05 is about as good as anything I've ever heard. I get goosebumps everytime.

@evistre it's really good. I think it's brilliant how the video gets crazier as each element to the melody is added.

Whoever was the brains behind the video really understood what was happening and made Cirrus special.

@Hobyrim

Very nice. Music reminds me of Gong's "Ard na Greine," off my fave album to play when I'm deep in thought.

If you don't know it, here it is: youtu.be/sklK4plYiw4

@Dobo I don't and I am excited to listen now!

@Dobo so I really dig this.

There's also something about this that makes me think Final Fantasy 7 music (the 1997 version).

Finding out that this song from Gong was made in 1979, there is no way this wasn't a musical influence for Nobuo Uematsu.
