Trump won the election by betting that no one ever went broke by appealing to people's greed, selfishness, vanity, and fear of those more disadvantaged than themselves, and that nobody ever made a fortune appealing to people's kindness, generosity, and love of their fellow-creature.
Whether that is true as a universal principle for all times and peoples I doubt; but evidently it was close enough to true for this election.
I’m not healed enough, overit enough, to be fully back yet. I’ll get there, but it ain’t today.
I am however watching the gloating right extremists wondering why this win wasn’t what they expected. Why are our friends and family ghosting us? Can’t we all just come together in unity?
Nope.
They have exploited our tolerance and desire for unity enough.
The US is in the FindOut phase, it aint gonna be pretty
Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego will win a closely watched US Senate seat in Arizona, CNN projects, defeating Republican Kari Lake to become the state’s first Latino senator. https://www.cnn.com/2024/11/11/politics/ruben-gallego-arizona-senate-race-kari-lake/index.html
Folks may perceive I am dismissing the heartbreak of the election outcome too readily.
I am not. I am deeply upset by events, the betrayal of the news media, the sale of our nation to a few billionaires. I’m angry that countless people will suffer more losses of freedom and safety. I’m scared.
So I am in a “both/and” mindset. This is horrible AND I am living the best I can right now. People I love are fading. I don’t want to miss today. I choose to live and love. No surrender.
I live in PA. We have backup paper ballots. I’m certain there are spot checks/audits to catch errors. I feel confident in our electoral system. I learned so much about how votes are processed the last time, I am confident in our safeguards. People who study elections/electorate agree. I do not believe there was massive voter fraud.
I'm pondering a very important question, which all veterans should consider.
Was my oath to support & defend the Constitution merely part of an employment contract that expired when my active duty ended? Or is it more than that? Is my oath "null and void" simply because I'm no longer getting paid for active service? An oath is a solemn thing, not to be taken lightly.
The Constitution, and the rights it imparts to us as citizens, are in grave peril. I'm not being hyperbolic. The danger is real.
