I nearly missed them:
bright green already bleeds through
spring's fading blossoms
The rebellious bluebells that had spilled out of a parking lot island onto the nearby lawn seemed to be gone. And yet...

Seems like I'm seeing fewer small animals, birds, & bugs around me these past few years. How much is because their numbers really are decreasing, & how much is because I just need to know where to look?

I try to remind myself that any unease at seeing such a large murder swirling and settling is purely my own superstition; they're simply going about their bird business.

We had such an abrupt shift recently from snow to warmth that the melting snow left fog & haze everywhere, including an eerie layer above a nearby river.

After a cold spell, we've having an abrupt thaw. Caught a glimpse of this on the way in to work yesterday morning.

I don't know why I was surprised to look out & see a snowglobe of swirling snow out the window; it is late January, after all. But this winter, & even the past couple have been so warm & dry that it came as a bit of a shock.

TIL: "Firebows" are rainbows that can occur without rain, because cirrus clouds act as the prism.

I was startled to come across one in the city. I later learned that unlike turkey vultures, black vultures don't just feed on carrion, and can sometimes be predatory.
