Yeah, I've met plenty of folks who distinguish between "my Black sister in law" and "N*ggers" or "My gay friend" and "F@ggots".
In the South, they're often explicit about this attitude. In other places, they hide it a bit, but still often think that way.
@Graci You see it all the time. Conservatives don't care unless it's about a member of their family. Then they get praised for their "epiphany" and suddenly developing the empathy the rest of us have had all along.
@Graci It gives me hope and restores my faith when someone realizes that what they've been taught is at odds with their deepest knowledge of love, and then choose love as their compass.
We've been taught that goodness means compliance, conformity, that love and goodness even includes harming others to make them fit or exclude them.
