It's exhausting being in the US. Every day another state works to block gender affirming care for trans youth. Many have proposals in committees to ban rights and gender affirming care for all trans people. Some are actively pushing to reverse gender marker and name changes, making whatever appears on the ORIGINAL birth certificate immutable. Some are looking to ban whatever they consider "cross gender presentation". All of which punishable by law.

Lawmakers want supportive parents to lose their children and, in some cases, be charged with felony child abuse. They feel forcible detransition is appropriate. They don't care that a majority of those kids will attempt suicide. They are happy to force their religious beliefs on everyone else. (Yes, religion has been brought up in these issues )

The children are just the start. It's the easy entryway. Bigotry disguised as concern. It's the Conservative playbook. Most recently this started with protecting girls from having "transgenders" play sports with them. Or changing in the same lockers. Then being allowed to be called girls. Or by their "new" names. Now it's the medical care they receive and who approved or provided that care. And it's moving on to the trans adults.

They're going after us because we're a subset of the LGBTQ minority where there are still some who would prefer us gone. They're going after us because we do not have the numbers to fight back and it's an easy place to start. It's not technically genocide if we're not an ethnic group. It's not technically genocide if you just criminalize a group's existence. It's not technically genocide if you harass a group to death.

I have been called names and treated with contempt. I have been (mildly) harassed by police. I've been misgendered by medical professionals even after correction. I have been followed around stores. Mothers have pulled their children away in fear previously reserved for Frankenstein's monster. Living in the South, I feel it's inevitable that a physical attack will someday occur. This is my experience and it PALES in comparison to many others who have it worse.

The bigotry affects us. Doctors are turning away patients for religious reasons. We don't have access to adequate mental health care, so many of us struggle. Then that struggle or even a diagnosis is used against us, as a whole, by the lawmakers trying to eliminate us. We're losing the fight - not because we're wrong, not because of ignorance, but because of apathy and not wanting to disrupt the status quo.
Contact your lawmakers. Speak up for us. We need you.
