Hey! Anybody watch Kindred yet? I just binged all eps and it was fan-fucking-tastic! There had better be more seasons! I really wanna talk spoilers with somebody
@GlennS
May I ask if you read the book ?
I am hesitant, because I loved the book, and so many adaptations never measure up.
@corlin I have read the book and they do make some changes that affect the story quite a bit, it's really for the sake of expanding the story and stretching it out for a longer adaptation. I don't want to spoil anything but they flesh out the present tense part of the story a lot. They add some family for Dana, change her relationship with Kevin from married couple to just met and newly involved. It changes the dynamic somewhat but also fleshes his character out quite a bit
@GlennS
Hmmm.
Ok.
That sounds reasonable.
Thanks.
@corlin first season covers the first half of the book
@corlin FWIW, I think that the show has been very faithful to the spirit of Butler's novel. The changes that they make seem to be i service of fitting the material to the different medium, but the heart of her story is very much intact.
@GlennS We are on episode 7 in our house. #OctaviaButler
@ChrisPierson what do you think so far? also let me know what u think at the end of the season
@GlennS I just finished season one. Talk about a cliffhanger. I really like it so far. Mallori Johnson of perfectly cast for the role of Dana. Now I'm going to read the book again. I thought I had a hard copy at home but I just have The Parable of the Sower and The Parable of the Talents.
@ChrisPierson yeah, Mallori is perfect for the role. I like the guy who plays Kevin, too. He's nothing like Kevin in the book, but I like the way he seems uncomfortable in his own skin, and ill at ease in both centuries.
@GlennS I am one of those people who appreciates the characters being slightly different from the novels. Kevin's role is top notch. It looks like there's more later of him to be revealed.
@ChrisPierson The bit with Dana's mother and grandmother both having the same ability to shunt back n forth in time is another interesting twist that's not in the book. I think they added that with the idea that it could be expanded upon in subsequent seasons, more potential material to explore. It's smart to drop a few clues early on so they can refer back to them later.
@ChrisPierson i loved Parable of the Sower and I need to get to Parable of the Talents.
@GlennS You'll enjoy it. I have a collectors copy with the two books together.
@Lucertola Here's my take on Kindred
