New GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson blamed mass shootings on women having rights—I’m serious. https://open.substack.com/pub/deanobeidallah/p/new-gop-house-speaker-mike-johnson
@Gerry
1 Timothy 2:10-13: “Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.”
Good luck with that! 😂
Yeah, i like the Constitution better
@richquaal @Gerry
I mean, do they actually think a woman shouldn't teach? Hello? Your moms, your actual teachers, grandmas, aunts. Women are through being told what to do. Doesn't keep theses asses from trying hard to get the genie back in the bottle. We'll see how that goes.
Yes constitution. No theocracy.
@CinnamonGirlE @richquaal @Gerry Mike Johnson is a Christian Nationalist. It's a cult. He's wrong in belittling women.
Now as to the verse: Paul is writing in the first century Roman empire when women had no rights. They were not even trusted as a witness in a legal sense. Many theologians believe these words were to protect the fledgling church while it got established. Unfortunately, the misogynistic interpretation persisted despite many other verses and evidence to the contrary. Read Acts.
@danielbsmith @richquaal @Gerry
I have read it. I just no longer subscribe to any of the thinking.
One of the churches, southern baptist, which is where I have been all my life, believes in this so literally that they wouldn't let women to teach Sunday school. They believed in men and women setting separately during any church business meetings. Etc, etc, etc. And I could go on and on. But I definitely won't.
Just done now. Done with the cult. And on some level, most of them are.
@CinnamonGirlE @richquaal @Gerry
Dear Cinny,
I'm not sure why you blocked me. That's your choice though. I was just trying to explain the theology. I'm sorry that your church experience is with people who believe in misogyny. I will say again that is not what the Bible teaches. Those people are wrong and I can prove it with the words of scripture. True believers accept the authority of scripture. Cultists do not. That's how to tell the difference between what's real and fake. Good day to you.
it's disturbing that he can imagine a motive at all
@richquaal @Gerry
It is indeed. His way of thinking, and those who support him, terrify me.
@Gerry Honestly, he should keep talking. Nothing will motivate American citizens more to vote for sensible representation than hearing him for the next 12 months.
@Gerry He's an evangelical jackal who doesn't have the COJONES or intelligence to lead or govern. That's why he's a hater of all things that are good. Someone somewhere has secret recordings of this guy.
