We have this collective idea that money is required to have a good life. Including me.

But that's not entirely true.

People had good lives before money was even invented. It is just an invention, and it didn't always exist. Some people today have good lives without money.

(Yes, I am aware I live in capitalism. I know. And yes, I can do math and balance my checkbook, and yes, I probably will continue to do all that until the day I die. Just pondering how it all seems so silly sometimes!)

@janallmac It does seem silly at times, but it's better than being eaten by tigers or bears while you're lugging your sack of gold or fur pelts to the general store to buy flour and sugar, and maybe a bolt of cloth to make cloths for the family.

I've also thought about money 💰 and pretend money, like checks and credit cards. And now there's the electronic transfers where there's no physical objects being transferred back and forth that represent money.

Bartering can be awkward.
