My parents have a hummingbird feeder. Sometimes they leave the door open.
So, it is possible for a hummingbird to come IN the house!
If that happens, it is possible for a hummingbird to sit or lie on the kitchen floor.
Then, if a hummingbird is sitting on the kitchen floor, it is possible for an elderly lady to step on it. ๐ฌ
Unfortunately, if that happens, it is very unlikely the hummingbird will survive the experience.
That doesn't happen too often. Fortunately.
@GeezerWench ^^But it is fairly exciting, not in a good way. ๐
@janallmac Oh, jeez!

We had one caught in the garage one time. Don't know how long she was in there, but she appeared to be getting tired.
What I don't get is the garage bay door was wide open. Why don't they fly straight out? This little knucklehead kept flying UP and bumping into the ceiling. We were attempting to herd her toward the bay door.
"Just fly out the door!"
FINALLY, she flew out that gaping hole.
My guess is they don't have to be smart, they just have to be lucky.
@janallmac Yup. Not good excitement.
My Mom had a few hummers kill themselves by flying into the window. Luckily, it only happened a few times.
She would cry and cry over the tiny things.
Can't imagine what she would have done if she stepped on one.
@GeezerWench My mom was quite distraught but my dad tried to distract her by joking that probably nobody in the world had ever stepped on a hummingbird before so she was very special, but unfortunately, that did not have the intended effect. She was very upset!
@janallmac I feel bad for your Mom.
@GeezerWench Yes!!
