Capitalism.

It was created to provide a resilient network that allows people from all over to connect reliably and share information.
Also, most automation and industrialized tech is _not_ currently used to help you save time. It is there to help more things get done in the same time.
You know, so you can be a better servant, as well as provide more profit as a consumer, by doing more work in less time and spending more.
