Saved myself hundreds of dollars by figuring out that the bushing on the shifter cable in my Xterra had disintegrated and the cable had disconnected from the pin. Instead of having it towed to the shop, I bought a $30 bushing. Spent an hour cussing at the assembly and sweating in the heat. Success! The Xterra will once again shift into gear. Feeling accomplished. Sometimes it's nice to figure things out for yourself.
@Foxthorn
Trade schools and practical skills have sadly been disappearing.
@Jeber I had no idea where to even begin. A Google search and a few YouTube videos and we were good to go (with a little assistance from my neighbor who explained the purpose of the shift lock). I asked my dad how he learned to fix things without the internet. He said he usually replaced a lot of parts that didn't need replacing until he finally found the one that did 😂
@Foxthorn @Jeber I would have liked that, too. My grandad was the family mechanic and he showed me how to do some things, but only on boat motors.
