Same, new to me too. Like you, HS Spanish for a semester or 2, TexMex construction Spanish - all vulgar, a few months in Honduras in the 90s, now half my time in PR and several years of Duo. But this is from my daily email from Spanish dictionary.com. I don't know where it is commonly used.
@FireMonkey Thanks for info. I spent most of my life in CA, so I mostly learned Mexican Spanish. As an adult I once worked in a restaurant with Spanish speakers from all over central and south America. First time exposed to many different dialects & words, not to mention cussing in kitchen Spanish! My worst experience was the college prof who spoke Castilian - or should I say "cathtillian"? Ugh.
