Good friday morning all! ☕🌞
Coffee time is finished. Off to wire in power and comms to my new mini-split outside unit. Inside is hung and ready. I'll connect tubing, then have to find an HVAC guy or buy/rent a vacuum pump and gauges to evacuate the lines before I can start it up. I've got calls in to two HVAC people, but no response. Have another to contact, but after that I just go by the gear and do it myself -- that's how I've learned to do everything. ❄️❄️❄️

@FireMonkey and then stop by @Beanc 's and see how that install is going. And then here, I'm ready.

@b4cks4w @FireMonkey if by “see how that install is going” you mean “install one there” yes please.

@Beanc @b4cks4w
Have tools ⚒️🧰, will travel.
I fix things, and I know stuff.
It's what I do. 🤠

@FireMonkey

I thought those were set up so as to not require a vacuum pump - or an AC guy.

@Sr0bi
Mr Cool has that setup. Not sure how it works. Must have pre-evacuated the lines, and some snazzy coupler that pierces/opens the seal. They're more expensive, making it worthwhile to install regular ones. I can get a vacuum pump and hoses and gauges for a couple hundred bucks, probably. I just wish I could rent one but again it would be about the price of buying it. I'm frugal. I'll do it myself.

This is a Quul, from HDepot, which may be Midea. I bought it new-in-box from a guy who didn't use it.

@FireMonkey

We sold Mitsubishi mini-splits on St Croix. Used less energy than a box fan.

@LnzyHou
This is Puerto Rico. 91F inside. Ceiling fans do wonders. This is enough to take the edge off. Don't need it to be 68. Hell, I'll probably be chilled if I set it to 80F.

@FireMonkey So far our system is working really well in the moderate So Cal climate. We've had a few days edging towards 100 degrees, but no high humidity. The heating worked great last winter. I'm curious to know how yours performs with the wetter conditions, so please keep us posted!

@Ironworker229 @LnzyHou
Generally these do excellent, although the my friend's bar I just walked into had two big units cranking and they weren't working so they probably froze up.

@FireMonkey That's what I'm wondering about in higher humidity environments. I've heard stories about icing issues. I wonder if that's avoidable if the t-stat is set higher, resulting in lower demand? Or maybe going out and hosing off the fins to de-ice? 🤷‍♂️
@LnzyHou

@FireMonkey

Lived St Croix for 7 yrs. The body adjusts to no A/C. Ceiling fans rock even now.

@LnzyHou
Was down here a couple of New years ago and a friend and I walked out onto the porch in the morning with our coffee and said "Huh, might have to put a shirt on, kind of chilly out here. 😄 Winter in the islands!
