The other day, I was walking with a neighbor around sunset. A grey heron flew overhead, and the lowering sun glazed the belly and wings of the bird a golden pink.

It was amazing! Glorious to see!

I commented to my companion and they “just saw a bird.” No color, no wonderment.

It served to remind of the vastly different ways we perceive and experience things, and how miraculous it is when we see things in a similar way.

Harmony, synchrony, agreement—these are treasures.

Was your companion a man? My girlfriend once told me that women have many more color receptor rods in their eyes and men don't receive the subtle color changes.
