I started wondering about when and how violating the rights of trans people became an acceptable bigotry.

In the U.S. it may seem like just another one in a long line of culture-war targets going back more than half a century and maybe longer: divorce, abortion, gay marriage; there's always something. But why *this* particular target? Trans people have been around and in the news for my whole life. Somehow it's a problem now? And it's not just the U.S.; this is happening in a lot of countries.+

Authoritarian playbook always starts with the most vulnerable group, wit the fewest allies. Hitler started with the trans and gays, even though Germany had a leading institution for the study of trans and gays. The public went along, and other groups were added...the result is well known.
