I dropped new iPhone in OtterBox Defender case in Crystal River after snorkeling with Manatees. It was in the river in a foot or so of muck under a dock. My guide dove in and miraculously found the phone.
Although at least 10 min in muck/water, it worked perfectly after I dried it off.
Needless to say, Iβm an OtterBox Defender junkie. Even bought one for my iPad.
Still working flawlessly 3 yrs later

I've dropped this one plenty, have had otterboxes, this was my 2nd Spigen case. This time the fates were aligned. when I stood and turned, the phone slid from my robe pocket, bounced on the rim, and entered the sour water like Mark Spitz. Without the crack, I doubt there would have been issues.
The guy at Ubreak-Ifix looked at me sadly as I entered..."We don't have our systems up, since yesterday, I'll take your phone, but don't even have parts for it."

I've heard good things about Spigen, though a friend of mine had one and it fell from about 3 feet and cracked the screen.
Though maybe, like Otterbox, it depends on which case you have?
Otterbox cases extend outward from the screen so there's some screen protection there.

I let him know that fit...and left it with him without throwing one.
