Who knows? Stuff sometimes comes up during vetting, sometimes things that are important and sometimes unimportant but embarrassing that could lead a candidate to withdraw. You might never know, unless it emerges at a later date–as was the case with John Edwards, for instance. But a good vetting process will dig pretty hard into a candidate's past, and that can be difficult to deal with.
