Humanity is so close to achieving one of it's ancient primal dreams: communication with animals. This sounds like pure fantasy, and for a very long time it was. Early attempts like trying to teach dolphins english... doomed to failure. Many animals, mammals in particular, already have their own language, and those languages incorporate gestures (eg Elephants, cats) and infrasounds that we can't hear without aid (eg bats). 1/x
A handful of particularly forward thinking researchers have collected hundreds of thousands of hours of animal sounds. Prior to the advent of large language model AI it was impossible to parse this much data, but now these data sets are powering a renaissance in bioacoustics research.
Seeing the sophistication of certain animal speech: that bats have regional dialects and variant speech for their babies... idk it makes me really sad how humanity has mistreated other animals.
