Straight ppl aren't gonna save us. The cops definitely aren't gonna save us. We have to save us.
@singlemaltgirl I'll be real, straight allies are not reliable. There is a small subset that's ride or die and they are f***ing angels, but to most we're sassy friends and a marketing demographic.
@Expecting_Words that's fair. like i don't believe white peeps are reliable allies to poc. like able bodies peeps are unlikely to be for disabled. like straight for the 2slgbtq+ community.
there are many who try. but they can also step in & out when they are tired, have other priorities, etc. i appreciate them. but it's those living their truth are most impacted who can't just leave it for a while, ya know?
@singlemaltgirl the whole "who shows up for who based on their position on the axis of oppression" is a standard discourse topic. A touchy one to be sure but interesting if you're talking with the right ppl... but the intersection of "mass shooting affecting queer ppl" and the trans day of remembrance doesn't leave me with the patience for this.
@Expecting_Words i hear you. & not looking to get into a discourse on the topic. just supporting the idea that those in it are the most invested in the fight for their rights, freedoms, safety, & security. that's all.
One of my favorite Beto quotes expresses that well:
"There is no cavalry.
" We are the cavalry."
@Expecting_Words i feel that way about all marginalized groups. we may have some allies. but no one's going to care about our plight, more than us.
