I really don't know what to do about Mogwai's refusal to use the dog door. If I put her OUT, she has NO issues using it to come IN. But she will NOT use it to go out when she needs to potty, so we are still cleaning up her messes.
When she signals that she needs to go out, I make her use the dog door. I have to push her through it though, she doesn't go willingly. *sigh* #CosoDogs #Dogs
I would follow a trail of snacks like Hansel and Gretel π ( my husband's contribution)
@Evereigh Dogs can often take 40-60 repetitions to "get it". Don't make it traumatic for her to go out, instead, practice with treats/toys. Go outside, coax her out through it, and then praise her when she does it right. Make it as pleasant and rewarding of an experience as possible. Keep it up, she'll get it!
I've taught 5 to use the dog door. Some don't like not seeing outside first (a clear flap is like a window, & they know they can't push thru windows). Some don't like how it feels. Some don't like that human is not holding open the door.
What I find works is to prop open the flap & sit outside w/the treat. They may still be nervous, but they'll come out. Since there's np going in, drop the flap to go inside.
Repeat on a regular...
... potty schedule until they got that bit, then repeat w/flap partly down as needed. Move to fully down.
@Evereigh
Maybe wait on the other side to go out with a snack? Or leave one out there..
