Hubbs got the entry way tile pulled up/out today, as well as the rest of the carpet in the front room. We had a lovely surprise of MOLD on some of the subflooring. Not 100% sure what caused it. Hubbs blames the animals....but I'm not convinced that's what it is. The spot is too large, and none of the other pet stain areas had mold.
Anyhoo! That's getting ripped and replaced this weekend. Just more unplanned shit in this remodel. Blargh.
@TheresaVermont Ours was built in 2008. So, not TOO old. I'd LOVE a really old home though. Just the thought of the history of old homes, what the walls have seen, excites me! I'd be thrilled to find "treasures" in a really old home no matter what they were!
@Evereigh we got into ‘might as well’ syndrome with a master bath reno. Started with ‘let’s replace the sink’, led to might as well replace floor tile, toilet, and well the shower tile needs to match. Lifted out the shower floor to find half the underfloor rotted totally out. Just luck we stood far enough away to avoid going through the ceiling below.
@TheresaVermont Oh Lord! Could you imagine the mess and repairs? Glad it didn't come to that!
@Evereigh It's home archeology, particularly if the place was built before 2000. Our old 1970 build had all sorts of surprises every time we worked on a project.
