A great first step in helping America eat more healthy would be greater food stamp credits for purchases such as beets, asparagus, broccoli, you all get what I mean. In NY I saw a woman buy twizzlers and Mountain Dew for her kids lunch on the card, that’s very no bueno in my view.

@MidnightRider why would you choose limiting poor people's access to mountain dew and twizzlers over limiting everyone's access to twizzlers and mountain dew. If you're concerned about health, why would some folks be able to choose and others not?

@Irmaplotz I would hope you wouldn’t be in favor of allowing people to purchase alcohol with it for all the same reasons.

AFAIK you can’t buy candy with SNAP benefits, but it could be state by state, or the clerk may have let it slide if they aren’t scanning purchase bar codes.

Soda is more difficult. Nonwhite people are predominantly lactose intolerant, so beverages are limited.

It’s hard to get cheaper calories to fill you up than corn syrup and soybean oil though.
