Protests are often co-opted by more extreme elements, which peaceful protesters have trouble confronting or kicking out.

While I strongly support freedom of assembly and the right to address grievances, when you choose to break the law, putting people in harm's way as you do so, you should be treated as any other criminal breaking the law would.
