Back to the Spartans—Every time I see a team called "Spartans," or someone talking about "Spartan virtues," or a _molôn labe_ bumper sticker, I wonder: "You do know that the Spartans were an aggressive, militarized, misogynistic slavemasters? In fact the world's first totalitarian dictatorship? You approve of that?"

But in fact generations of classicists taught children for centuries that the Spartans were a clean-living virtuous race who should be admired and imitated.

Georgia quietly ends automatic voter registration for 15 months

Since 2016, Georgians who received a driver's license have been registered to vote by default. Georgians that didn't want to register to vote had the opportunity to opt-out. But, early in 2021, a change was made to the system. Instead of automatic registration, applicants were required to affirmatively click a "YES" button in order to register. That change caused a dramatic decline in new registrations. 

Almost half of OB-GYN medical students will not receive any abortion training if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade this summer, according to a new study from the University of California, San Francisco.
