Except ol' George liked trees.
This has been a looming problem from the start.
This whole commission only exists because we managed to elect enough Independent MPs to pressure the Labor Party to promise to set it up before the last election. They won, and the promise was a non-zero factor.
However, as soon as they got into government, they colluded with the 'conservative' Opposition - who REALLY didn't want to be scrutinised after 9 years in govt. - to water it down to the bare minimum.
It seems awfully hard to have a robust and meaningful anti-corruption body when its head is scared to 'offend' people trying to cover up what looks awfully like corruption 🤷♂️

The Labor government has cocked this up - I would argue because their heart wasn't in having a body overseeing them - but the RW Opposition will be worse.
Yet another example of the flaws in a two party political system.
I followed you both 😉

The word 'safely' is doing some heavy lifting here. I'm gonna stick with my strategy of running away as fast as I can whenever I see one.

Well, we can live in hiope, but Lachlan has 2 children that he’s no doubt infected with the odious poison that goes as far back as grandpa Keith Murdoch,so we’ll have to see 🤷🏼♂️
Note: Sky News in Australia is the Murdochs' Fox News wannabe, and is no relation to Sky News UK, which actually has some integrity.
Annie's great! I saw her play at the Sydney Opera House a few years ago, and IMHO she was even better live.
The Murdochrats here in Oz are running a campaign against our ambassador to the US (who also happens to be a former Labor Prime Minister) because he said some things about T**** before going into the role.
T****'s caddy, Dan Scavino, posted an hourglass GIF on one of his social media posts, too.
For now, at least, our PM is holding the line that "T**** doesn't choose our ambassador; Australia does," and that seems exactly right. Appeasement is bad.
Here's what he said, and I see no lies:
👏Bravo!

If this report does not get leaked within days, we will know 100% for sure that Congressional Dems absolutely do not understand the assignment.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if a Republican leaked it 🤷♂️

I love that the top story on the newspaper site is about an Uber driver with a water pistol.
It does strike me, though, that we see a dude waving a water pistol outside the NSW State Parliament as a really big deal, but a dud who fomented a violent insurrection against the US Capitol is about to be president again.
*shakes head in bewilderment*
That's all 100% true! 👍 👍
Compared to the US system, ours is delightful.
But there's still a delta between relatively delightful and actually delightful that needs seeing to. 🤓
What the parties don't like is that we've found a way to help Independents by setting up an organisation that operates like a big party does, but only to help community-chosen Indies. Fighting fire with fire, basically.
Now they're stopping that but keeping all the bad in place.
Very cynical stuff.
Oh, for sure. No one wants it to be like America.
But this doesn't actually solve the main problem. On its face, the $20K donation limit and the $800K per seat spending are great.
But Gina Rinehart can still donate $20K to her pet Liberal/Nationals in all 150 seats, and both big parties can still aggregate their spending into a pot of $120 million to buy advertising and whatnot.
Then, there are separate entities that both parties secretly run. The advertise too. 🤷♂️
Wonders will never cease! The Labor government and the RW opposition actually agree on something!
Funny how they can agree to protect their cosy duopoly even though they disagree on every single other thing.
Yes, it's good to keep the billionaires out of it, but that's just an excuse to try to nobble the Independents and minor parties that threaten to make government accountable by stopping the major parties from having sufficient votes to form government in their own right.
The fix is in.

OMG, the three living original guys got Mark Arm from Mudhoney to sing, and Mick Harvey from The Bad Seeds (and lots more) on guitar, and they are playing in Sydney next Friday night 🤯
@Boyceaz 😂
Enthusiast.
I like guitars a lot. Maybe too much.
I also do music production and mix engineering.
